VANGEN 23-004 Virtual PCOC and ROC(M)+DCS

  1. Rgn Trg O (Sail) is planning virtual PCOC (Mod 1) and ROC(M) (Mod 2) training to be conducted in the February and March 2023 time frame using MS Teams;

  2. Target audience are cadets. The following criteria should be used to identify applicants:

  3. Mod 1 (PCOC): Phase 3 cadets and higher; however Phase 2 cadets will be considered if space is available;

  4. Mod 2 (ROC(M)): Phase 4 cadets and higher. Cadets being loaded on this course are expected to have their PCOC already;

  5. Adults may be considered; however, they will not be paid;

  6. Virtual PCOC courses will consist of the following dates and serials:

  7. 23SCOP_vPCOC_A (Mo 13 Feb 23 – 27 Mar 23) no class 13 Mar;

  8. 23SCOP_vPCOC_B (Tu 14 Feb 23 – 28 Mar 23) no class 14 Mar;

  9. 23SCOP_vPCOC_C (We 15 Feb 23 – 29 Mar 23) no class 15 Mar;

  10. 23SCOP_vPCOC_D (Th 16 Feb 23 – 30 Mar 23) no class 16 Mar;

  11. 23SCOP_vPCOC_E (13 – 17 Mar 23 AM session) – March Break;

  12. 23SCOP_vPCOC_F (13 - 17 Mar 23 PM session) – March Break;

  13. Virtual ROC(M) courses will be run over the March Break

  14. 23SCOP_vROCM_A (13 – 17 Mar 23 in AM);

  15. 23SCOP_vROCM_B (13 – 17 Mar 23 in PM);

  16. Times are expected to be as follows:

  17. Evening PCOC courses: 1900 – 2030 hrs EST;

  18. Morning courses: 0900 – 1130 hrs EST;

  19. Afternoon courses: 1300 – 1530 EST hrs;

  20. Max participation per serial:

  21. PCOC: 20;

  22. ROC(M): 22;

  23. Application Due Dates. Initial requests are to be sent to the Regional SCOP OPI as outlined in the attached SCOP Virtual Training Request form. Corps COs are to prioritize their loading as there are limited amount of billets per serial. When cadets are selected they will be loaded onto their technical serial in FORTRESS. Applications are due one week before the start of a particular serial.

  25. 7 Feb 23 - 23SCOP_vPCOC_B (Tu 14 Feb 23 – 28 Mar 23) no class 14 Mar;

  26. 8 Feb 23 - 23SCOP_vPCOC_C (We 15 Feb 23 – 29 Mar 23) no class 15 Mar;

  27. 9 Feb 23 - 23SCOP_vPCOC_D (Th 16 Feb 23 – 30 Mar 23) no class 16 Mar;

  28. 6 Mar 23 - 23SCOP_vPCOC_E , 23SCOP_vPCOC_F, 23SCOP_vROCM_A, and 23SCOP_vROCM_B

  29. Instructors. SCOP Module 1 and 2 instructors are invited to put forth their name for consideration to teach one or more courses.

  30. Applications are requested NLT 6 Feb 23;

  31. Info / trg session for instructors to be conducted Wed 8 Feb 23 EST via MS Teams at 1900 hrs EST;

  32. Instructor-Candidates. If there are any personnel interested in becoming a PCOC or ROC(M) instructor, including senior cadets, it is to be indicated as well on returns.

  33. Cadets cannot be ROC(M) instructors due to the agreement between CJCR and Canadian Power and Sail Squadron (CPS).

  34. Prerequisites for cadet PCOC Instructors are as follows

  35. minimum 17 years old;

  36. obtained the Powerboat Operator qualification;

  37. held the PCOC for at least one year;

  38. cadets must be Phase 4 qualified and have either successfully completed the Ship’s Boat Operator (SBO) or Senior Sail course;

  39. have thorough knowledge of the PCOC course material and the CCO Quality Assurance and Control Requirements for Course Providers, National Pleasure Craft Operator Competency Program;

  40. have thorough knowledge of the Boating Safety Student Workbook; and

  41. be selected for or employed in a position delivering the PCOC program.

  42. Applications are requested NLT 6 Feb 23.

  43. Pay. 2.5 days of mil pay has been allocated for adult instructors, including adult instructor-candidates.
